What are Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases®?
Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® are based on great works of literature, history, philosophy and poetry. Each Hartwick Classic Leadership Case® contains excerpts from a great text or cultural tradition as well as a contemporary article that mirrors the leadership dynamics of its classic counterpart. In addition, a brief review of relevant leadership theory is included.

What are Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases®?
Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases® are designed to be used by students in conjunction with viewing their related films. Each film case study includes an introduction to the film, some thought-provoking questions to think about while watching the film, a description of its historical and political context, a character guide, a parallel real-world leadership article from, for example, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, or Forbes, and a short review of management and leadership theory which helps explain the behavior of the key players. Simply put, a Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case® enables you to use film as a superb educational device that will catalyze a rich discussion of leadership and management.

How do I show the film?
You can show all or just parts of the film. Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case® Teaching Notes identify critical scenes in the film to enable you to show portions of the film in class if you choose. In addition, these critical scenes (not usually more than 45 minutes of film time) can be used to refresh the memories of students who have watched the entire film in class or as an out-of-class assignment.

How about film permissions?
Performances of copyrighted works for teaching purposes receive special treatment under the 1976 Copyright Act. Under specified conditions, an exemption is provided for such use of any work in face-to-face instruction. Such use must take place in a classroom devoted to instruction. In addition, the use of films must be as part of the class curriculum in a not-for-profit educational institution; the films must not be broadcast over a campus-wide system; and the films must be, to the best of your knowledge, legal copies.

How do I use Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® and Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases®?
If you are going to use Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® in your course(s) then you, the professor, need to have a copy of the case study and teaching note for each title you are going to use. If you are going to use Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases® in your course(s) then you will need a copy of the case study, a copy of the teaching note and a copy of the film for each title that you are going to use. Your students need to have copies of the case studies as well. Please note that original copies of Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® and Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases® must be purchased from the Institute. The Institute does not allow photocopying of its materials. The easiest way to obtain original copies of the case studies for your students is to have your bookstore place your adoptive order. The Institute also accepts adoptive orders from professors. Students may also purchase case studies directly from the Institute as long as they provide their professor’s name and course number when they place their order.

How do I adopt Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® and Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases®?
The Institute accepts adoption orders (multiple copies of one or more case studies) from college and university bookstores year-around. Just give your bookstore personnel the Institute’s telephone number (1-800-942-2737) along with a list of the titles and item numbers of the case studies you are adopting. College and university bookstores may place orders quickly via telephone or fax using VISA, MasterCard or purchase orders*. If you adopt 3 or more case studies for a course you can have the Institute assemble the case studies in 3-ring binders. The 3-ring binders are $1.95 each. There is no additional charge for the assembly. Let your bookstore know if you would like the case studies assembled in 3-ring binders for your students. The item number for a 3-ring binder is B-2002.
*Invoices from the use of purchase orders must be paid within 30 days of receipt of shipment. The Institute reserves the right to require prepayment on orders from bookstores.

Can I order a complimentary desk copy of a Hartwick Classic Leadership Case® or a Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case®?
Certainly. How do I get the film that goes with a Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case®?
There are several ways to get the film. The easiest way is to order the Institute’s Teaching Kit, which includes a copy of the film on video tape or DVD (in its entirety), the Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case®, and the Teaching Notes. Call the Institute. You can order the film on video tape / DVD separately from the Institute by calling 1-800-942-2737. You can also secure a copy of the film locally, either through your audio-visual department or a video tape/DVD supplier.

How long does it take to get Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases® and Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases®?
For orders shipped inside the continental United States, the Institute normally ships orders via UPS Ground (which takes between 3-7 business days depending upon where an order is shipped to). Urgent delivery is also available upon request via UPS Next Day or UPS 2nd Day.
